Farm Updates

As we head into the final weeks of the season, we can’t help but marvel at the fall bounty we’ve enjoyed so far! While the weather has been a bit unpredictable, we’re grateful for the early fall rain that helped our greens thrive. We could use a little more moisture now, but the dry spell has allowed us to complete plenty of tractor work, prepping our last fields with cover crops to rest for the winter.

This week, we’re excited to feature a seasonal favorite—Honeynut winter squash from Miller Farms in Clinton, MD. If you love butternut squash, you’ll adore Honeynut—it’s smaller, sweeter, and simply irresistible when drizzled with honey!

As we shift deeper into fall, we’re down to the last of our summer crops, which will include, green tomatoes, smaller bell peppers, and green sweet peppers.

But fear not— the rest of our greens are making a comeback! Kale and chard will be easing back into the shares this week, and by next week, we expect the rest of our greens to be fully sized up and ready to harvest. This will likely be the last big week for lettuce as we finish harvesting from the final bed, and there may be a brief gap in salad greens while our next seeding grows. Stay tuned for updates on how they’re sizing up!

Looking ahead, we’ll bring in the last of our hearty fall crops in these final weeks, including cabbages, collards, Asian greens, carrots, and beets. Next week, we’re especially thrilled to share not only our own sweet potatoes but also some from Sassafras Creek Farms—just in time for cozy, autumn meals.

Keep the shares coming through the Winter Season!
