Farm Updates
Fall has fully arrived, bringing cooler nights, which means our summer crops are slowing down—some have even finished for the season. We’re saying goodbye to okra and eggplant, but we're thrilled to have ripe tomatoes and peppers to still share with you!
This year’s tomato harvest has been incredible. It started with cherry tomatoes in the high tunnel during those early weeks, followed by our beloved orange Gin-fizz tomatoes, and then more cherries and larger varieties from the field. Plus, we have another late crop from the high tunnel. Altogether, we’ve enjoyed over 16 weeks of fresh tomatoes from all these plantings! After this week, most of the remaining tomatoes will likely be green, perfect for ripening on a countertop at home.
As we wrap up, crops that didn’t perform as well, we’re supplementing from our partnering farms. This week, we’re excited to include another batch of winter squash from Potomac Vegetable Farms in your shares.
Also looking ahead, we hope to return to our kale and collards by next week, but they need some time to recover after some confusion in the u-picking areas last weekend. In the meantime, we have plenty of Bok Choi and Yukina Savoy to fill your greens drawer, along with the remainder of our cabbages—so be sure to save some space!
For the final four weeks, your shares will be a mix of what’s left in our fields—count on lots of cabbages, asian greens, carrots (look how close they are!), beets, lettuces, and sweet potatoes—plus the goodies we’re bringing in from other partner farms, like next week’s batch of winter squash and more sweet potatoes coming the week after.
Let’s savor this beautiful fall season—it always seems to fly by so quickly!
Keep the shares coming through the Winter Season!
