Farm Updates:
Rolling into our first week of the winter CSA, and we’re feeling excited! The recent temperature drops have been keeping us busy, as most everything at night requires a little extra care and protection. We use a material we lovingly call “row cover,” which acts as a blanket for our crops. While it can feel like a chore to take it on and off, having fresh food year-round makes it so worthwhile.
Check out the images to see the difference between a warm and cozy salad green and some of the Fall Kale that was left uncovered. It’s truly amazing how greens transform after a frost. Their cell structure changes, and they develop a sweeter, more vibrant flavor. There’s something magical about it!
We’re so excited to get back into the swing of things with the winter CSA. After the whirlwind of the main season, it’s nice to settle into a calmer, steadier pace. Winter brings a chance to focus on the little things and truly enjoy the unique flavors and treasures this season has to offer. We hope you savor each step of the food journey this winter as much as we enjoy bringing it to you.
This week’s share also includes our Scarlet Queen turnips—giant pink beauties with a deliciously sweet flavor, thanks to the frosty weather. These turnips are a delight and so versatile! They have pink skin and white flesh, similar to a radish, but with a mild, turnip-like taste. You can slice them thinly and toss them with this week’s lettuce and your favorite dressing for a beautiful, colorful salad. Or, peel, cube, boil, and mash them into a flavorful mashed potato alternative.
We hope you enjoy these winter treats and the incredible flavors they bring to your table!
Note: We now offer flexible options during the winter season.
You can request to have your share boxed and left for pickup after the usual pickup time, or choose to 'double up' on shares to make up for a missed pickup.
Please let us know in advance using the Share Request Form below— & we’ll be happy to accommodate your request. To make it easy, we’ll include this button in each email for quick access.
Requested a boxed share for the week?
They will be found in the outermost walk-in fridge on the back side of the CSA pick-up. When you approach we will have more instructions to get you oriented on grabbing your share of the cart that will be inside keeping the veggies at a good temperature.
The large gates may be closed if you come during “off” hours, you can go around them by proceeding straight and then turning left to go back towards those large 3 barns.
