Farm Updates

As we enter the last week of September and the first official week of fall, we are excited to still see one of the best overlaps of the season with both summer and cool-season crops coming in from the fields. These cool-season crops are loving these cool dewy fall mornings, and the rain this week has been a nice bonus. Especially as went to plant our cover crop seed! This rain will allow those seeds to germinate nicely to make a nice lush cover to keep our topsoil right where we want it and to give a nice bonus of organic matter to our fields come spring when they will be reincorporated.

Having tomatoes at this point in the season is also especially exciting, though they are ripening more slowly and facing more pressure from caterpillars and other critters. We expect to see them decline after this week, so please savor the ripe tomatoes while they last just a bit longer.

As we ease into October next week, the first frost will be on our minds, as summer crops won't survive the chill. So we will be on the lookout, especially past the mid-way point. But as they know what is coming with these cooler nights- our eggplant peppers and okra are slowing down. We expect to still see them around a couple more weeks.

Over the next six weeks, you can expect to see a bit more of summer, more greens, from salad-size leaves to cabbage varieties, along with roots like carrots and rutabagas, and of course, sweet potatoes coming in those final weeks!

Keep the shares coming through the Winter Season!
