Farm updates

Wow, we did it! Together we have eaten local food for another winter and enjoyed the bounty that the Maryland climate has to offer. Every year there is more to learn about crop timing, cold tolerance, and soil nutrition (among other things!) but we are proud of another awesome CSA. From the whole crew, thank you for choosing our farm to invest in. You chose nutritious Organic produce for yourself, all the environmental and economic benefits of sourcing from a local farm, supporting low-income folks who receive free fresh produce donations, AND the revitalization of the Chesapeake Bay through responsible farmland management. Good job you! If you haven’t already snagged your share for the main season get to our farms store so we can grow you more amazing produce all year long. Like tomatoes. And the freshest garlic ever.

We are also still hiring for a seasonal summer position. Are you or someone you know looking for a part time job in the ag or environmental field? Join our team! It is May-November, $16.50/hour, 3 days a week, working with other staff and volunteers here at Clagett in the fields, greenhouses, and wash-pack shed. You will learn a lot and go home with armloads of seasonal produce!

More Farm Oferings

And don’t forget to join us for our free Open House, Saturday April 18, 1-3pm. In addition to a hay wagon ride and honey sampling, we will have several local businesses selling their crafts! Holly from Little Red Bird Botanicals will be leading the native tree walk around Clagett from 2-3pm, and you can tour our greenhouse full of seedlings and the tree nursery too.

If you are one of the lucky ducks who ordered bulk lamb the pickup is next Saturday March 28! We’re sorry we couldn’t align that with this last winter CSA pickup but getting a butcher timeslot is extremely difficult and preplanned, so thanks for your patience.

Otherwise, this weekend is your last chance to shop for beef and lamb in the Farm Store until the Open House in April or the Main Season starts up in May. We are fully stocked with porterhouse and t-bone steaks, and lamb and mutton chops of all kinds. We also have a sale on ground beef and a few half price roasts that have a touch of freezer burn but are still wonderful. Don’t delay, make your orders today!
