Radishes coming soon!
NO pick-up this week
We will return next week to head into the last 10 weeks of the Main Season CSA!
This short break will help us keep up with the demands of all three seasons meeting at once. We are actively planting the rest of winter and fall crops like beets, bok choi, lettuce, spinach, chard, and more, while hoeing and irrigating all the fall greens and roots to stay ahead of weeds and keep them growing beautifully. We are also working on clearing out the fields that held earlier successions of squash, cucumbers, and spring greens and preparing them for fall cover crops.
Cover crops bring all kinds of benefits. They hold the soil in place so it doesn’t wash away, they keep weeds from sprouting in freshly tilled ground, and they bring organic matter back into the soil. When we plant a mix of different types, they also help diversify the activity happening below the surface. Cover crops are one of our biggest tools for improving the health of our fields. Now we are just waiting on some rain.
As we head into these last weeks, more fall produce will start making its way back into the shares alongside the summer crops still hanging in. Coming up first are radishes, ginger, and the start of our famous spicy mustard green mix. We do expect to keep seeing okra, peppers, and of course, tomatoes for a while! Fall is a favorite time, as the overlap of produce creates a very diverse bounty on our CSA benches. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
We are open for U-Pick!
U-picking hours are still Monday-Saturday, 8am-6pm. If the main gates are closed when you arrive you can follow the paved road to the right, and then follow the curve of the road back to the left. This will take you in a loop around the main deer-fenced area and up to the wash station/parking lot.
In field D7- beside the three high tunnels:
Large Tomatoes
This is a large field you pass as you first drive into the farm. Once you pass the front large gate it will be your third field on the left side. If the gates are closed you can park right outside them and open a gate to walk in, or drive carefully onto the shoulder right outside the field. Use caution on bumpy ground.
VERY IMPORTANT TO ONLY PICK THE TOMATOES
The peppers are for shares for the remainder of the season and are not on u-pickIn field F- directly below the primary parking lot:
Please do not take your car into the fields and be mindful when picking that we share the field with all of our CSA community.Sunflowers- all colors and varieties are available!
Cherry Tomatoes: Blend of tomatillos, small orange, pink, and red cherry tomatoes, orange and red cocktail tomatoes, plum tomatoes, green zebras, San Marzano paste tomatoes, and a few large yellow Gin Fizz tomatoes.
In the raised brick beds, also known as the Cleeland Garden:
Mint
Oregano
Calendula
Parsley
Greek Basil
Sorrel
Thyme, Sage, and Lemon Balm (to allow for healthy growback for these plants, pick the largest leaves from the outside, do not cut from the stem of the plant!)
In field “G” behind the pizza oven/parking lot:
Parsley
Italian Basil (the classic basil flavor)
Lemon Basil (looks like basil, smells and tastes strongly of lemon)
Thai Basil (dark purple flowers & stems, great for Asian recipes of many kinds)
Holy Basil (light purple flowers and stems, directly behind the Thai Basil, used for calming tea)
Any Flowers: Zinnias, Statice, Gomphrena, Celosia, and Strawflowers are still blooming!
