Week 15 of 26: Mid-season survey!

We are looking forward to the second half of this CSA season in more ways than one. Arugula, radishes, baby turnips, and more fall greens have just germinated!

This Week’s Share:

Potatoes
Slicing Tomatoes
Onions
Squash or Eggplant
Sweet and Bell Peppers
Choice: Shishitos or Okra or Poblanos or Chilis
Basil bunch

Now that we’re halfway through the CSA season, we wanted to take a moment to get some feedback from you all about how we’re doing. What can we do to improve your experience purchasing, picking up, or eating your vegetables from us? Anything you are loving that you want us to know about? Thanks so much for your support and participation in our farm community. Take the survey here.

Notes from the Field

We seem to have just passed our extreme tomato bounty and will start having more normal amounts of weekly tomatoes. While the 5-pound weeks were amazing for all of us tomato lovers around here, the crew could hardly keep up with picking, and the plants appear to have passed through their window of absolute peak production. Phew! Don’t fret, you’ll still be eating many more tomatoes of all colors and kinds for a while longer, we are just starting to have room for other things- like these beans! Hopefully we will be picking beautiful green beans in another two weeks or so, while we hoe and water and care for the fall kale, kohlrabi, turnips, chard, lettuce, etc etc.

What’s on U-Pick?

Cherry tomatoes AND tomatillos are now on U-pick! Go down below the main parking lot through the big fence, and look for the red signs. Any type or color there is available. You are welcome to use a pint or quart box from us if needed as a picking vessel, but please return in the future so we can reuse it! All sunflowers are also available!

In the raised brick beds, also known as the Cleeland Garden:

  • Mint

  • Oregano

  • Calendula

  • Parsley

  • Greek Basil

  • Sorrel

  • Thyme, Sage, and Lemon Balm (to allow for healthy growback for these plants, pick the largest leaves from the outside, do not cut from the stem of the plant!)

In field “G” behind the pizza oven/parking lot:

  • Parsley

  • Italian Basil (the classic basil flavor)

  • Lemon Basil (looks like basil, smells and tastes strongly of lemon)

  • Thai Basil (dark purple flowers & stems, great for Asian recipes of many kinds)

  • Holy Basil (light purple flowers and stems, directly behind the Thai Basil, used for calming tea)

  • Any Flowers: Zinnias, Statice, Gomphrena, Celosia, and Strawflowers are still blooming!

Reminder that U-picking hours are Monday-Saturday, 8am-6pm. Please do not come to the farm on Sundays, as we do not have staff on site who can be available in case of an emergency. If the main gates are closed when you arrive you can follow the paved road to the right, and then follow the curve of the road back to the left. This will take you in a loop around the main deer-fenced area and up to the wash station/parking lot.
