Farm Updates

As we await a proper rainstorm, we keep moving along into the middle of summer. This week brings the start of our field tomatoes, adding more color to the tomato section at pick-ups and marking the time for salsa and sauce making. With varieties ranging from red, orange, and striped, it’ll be a fun week to dig into each one and experience the subtle differences.

Over the next few weeks, as the tomato field picks up in production, be prepared for large tomato shares. Remember, you can freeze tomatoes whole to add to soups and sauces later in the year. If the amount seems too much to take home, feel free to just take what you will use. After CSA pick-ups we donate twice a week during peak season to keep produce moving along to our local food pantries, reducing our food waste and increasing access to healthy produce in our community. So far this season, we have donated over 6,000 pounds of produce!

Looking past the tomatoes, we will start seeing more pepper varieties, more types of onions, and crops like okra will be coming in plentiful. Hopefully, in the next couple of weeks, we will see our potatoes sized up enough for harvesting, and the last round of summer squash should be ready to carry us into August.
